ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Charleston Southern women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 Big South victory over UNC Asheville Saturday, April 2. CSU won all but one match on the day, advancing to 4-2 in conference play in the process.

The Buccaneers have evened their overall season record at 7-7, posting a 4-2 mark in Big South matches with one league contest remaining. Asheville falls to 6-10 on the season, including 0-4 in conference matches.

UNC Asheville only had five players compete against CSU, resulting in a forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

The Bulldogs' forfeit at No. 3 doubles gave CSU the first point of the match. The No. 1 team of Stephanie Schon and Zoe Hamel defeated Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic, 8-1. CSU responded with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, as Angie Torres and Alexandra Walters downed Nicole Schon and Britney Cloer.

Makhova ran her conference singles record to 5-1 with a straight-sets victory over Cloer at No. 1 singles. Brooke Pletcher earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Hamel in the third flight. Alia Nour posted her fifth conference singles victory, defeating Nicole Schon, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4. Torres beat Jackie McGuirk, a match in which McGuirk retired with Torres ahead one set.

Stephanie Schon scored Asheville's lone singles victory in the second flight, defeating Dzakovic, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9.

The Buccaneers conclude Big South Conference play with a match Tuesday, April 5 at Coastal Carolina. The match in Conway is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Asheville next competes at Campbell Tuesday.
