CLEMSON, S.C. - Charleston Southern, taking on a nationally
ranked tennis team from the ACC for the second match in a row,
dropped a 4-0 decision at No. 10 Clemson Tuesday, Jan. 25. The
Tigers have swept all four of their opponents this season.
CSU remains in search of its first win of the season, currently
holding an 0-2 record after defeats at No. 46 NC State and No. 10
Clemson. Clemson is 4-0 heading into the second match of its
doubleheader today.
Clemson won all three doubles matches to claim the first point
of the match. CSU's pair of Brooke Pletcher and Aleandra Walters
faced Maria Belaya and Laurianne Henry, with Belaya and Henry
earning a tightly-contested 8-6 victory.
Josipa Bek and Klara Vyskocilova defeated Olga Makhova and
Marija Dzakovic, 8-4. Nelly Ciolkowski and Carolina Magnusson
defeated the team of Heather Isbell and Alia Nour.
The Tigers posted three straight-set wins in singles play to
earn the 4-0 match victory. Bek, the 12th-ranked women's tennis
player in the nation, defeated Makhova, 6-1, 6-1. Dzakovic, playing
at No. 2 singles for CSU, fell in the first set to Ciolkowski, and
led the second set, 2-1, when the team scoring ended.
Clemson's Vyskocilova downed Pletcher, 6-1, 6-0, and Belaya won
a match with identical 6-1 scores over Walters.
The Buccaneers will next be in action Saturday, Feb. 12, taking
on the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. CSU will then
compete at Troy Sunday, Feb. 13.
