CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern Buccaneers (3-4, 0-1 Big South) struggled to stop a strong Liberty Flame (4-3, 1-0 Big South) rushing game as they surrendered 30 second-half points in a 50-10 loss, Saturday afternoon at CSU Stadium.

Liberty ran the ball 45 times and averaged 6.3 yards as they amassed 283 yards against the CSU defense. Rashad Jennings had 20 carries for the Flames with 131 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bucs did most of their offensive damage through the air as Eli Byrd completed 12-20 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown. Byrd also had two interceptions, while backup Sidney Bryant also threw two interceptions. Bryant finished the game having completed 8-14 passes and 84 yards.

Jada Ross led with a game-high 17 tackles, while Josh Warrior added 10 for the Bucs. Coming into the game in the second-half, Jonna Lee tallied seven stops. Neither team was able to get into the backfield much, as Justin Witzman and Marco Ramirez combined for the only tackle for loss for CSU. Trey Jacobs had one tackle-for-loss for Liberty, while Tim Torrence and Pierre Tinsley combined for the other stop behind the line of scrimmage.

The lone CSU touchdown came on the second play of the game as Byrd found Dee Brown cutting across the middle of the field. Brown made a move and dashed 62-yards to strike first blood and put the Bucs up 7-0 just 1:09 into the game.

Liberty looked as though they would tie the game on their first drive, earning a first-and-goal on the five yardline, but a defensive stand by the Bucs forced a 20-yard field goal by Noah Greenbaum, holding the 7-3 lead.

One of two interceptions by Byrd set the Flames up with a short field, using just three plays to go 29 yards to take a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

On the first play in the second, Nick Ellis connected on a 37-yard, game-tying touchdown, but it would prove to be the final points of the day for Charleston Southern.

The Flames rushed for five touchdowns on the ground, as they handed Charleston Southern their worst home loss since a 42-0 defeat at the hands of Presbyterian, Sept. 10, 2005. The loss also ended the Bucs' home-winning streak at 12 games, which tied the Big South record, and was the third-longest in the nation, behind Appalachian State (30) and San Diego (22).

Charleston Southern hits the road for their final two home games of the season, facing Gardner-Webb in a 6:30 kickoff that will be televised on SportSouth. From there they will face the Keydets of V.M.I. at 1 p.m. on Nov. 3.
