Lady Bucs Fall 70-66 in Another Close Battle

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern made a late run with key points from Kelsey Wasmer and Pam Tolbert, Monday evening, but their efforts to earn their first Big South victory of the season fell short as they dropped a 70-66 decision to UNC Asheville.

Lady Buccaneers Set to Host UNC Asheville

As the Bucs are set to host the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville, it will mark the second conference game for both teams and first meeting between them for the 2008-09 season. The Bulldogs come into the game holding the series advantage of 26-22, however, the Buccaneers were successful at sweeping the Bulldogs in last season’s series when the Bulldogs were the regular season favorite for the conference. The seep was the only one the Bucs took last season, but were also the only team to do so against the Bulldogs. The CSU squad will surely be looking for a repeat of those performances, while the Bulldogs will be looking to advance their advantage in the series.

CSU vs. VMI Game Notes

THE GAME
The Buccaneers play the final game of a three-game homestand as they welcome the VMI Keydets to the CSU Field House.  The game will mark the third Big South conference tilt of the season for the Bucs after they suffered their first conference defeat to UNC Asheville, 65-76, on Saturday night.  The Bucs will be looking to snap a pair of four-game losing streaks in this matchup.  The first is an overall four-game losing skid that began with their, 55-74, loss at Cincinnati.  CSU has also lost in the stretch to Florida State, Virginia Tech and UNCA.  The second streak is a four-game losing stretch to the Keydets, who swept the two conference regular season matchups a season ago.  Included was an overtime thriller at the CSU Field House, that the Keydets claimed, 93-91.  CSU last beat VMI at the CSU Field House in Barclay Radebaugh’s first season as head coach in 2005-06.

CSU Drops 76-65 Decision vs. UNC Asheville

Charleston, S.C. – Charleston Southern went back to the CSU Field House Saturday, after playing well vs. Virginia Tech at the North Charleston Coliseum, only to be met by the UNC Asheville Bulldogs and a 76-65 loss.  The Buccaneers never could find a rhythm on their home court, as they shot 29 percent from behind the arc and struggled with a 6-16 effort at the line.  Despite the poor shooting, CSU did put four players in double figures and would have had a shot late in the game, had it not been for some clutch foul shots from the Bullldogs.  With the loss, the Bucs dropped to 5-7 on the season and 1-1 in the Big South.  UNC Asheville improved to 5-8 with a 2-1 mark in the conference.
