LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The women's cross country team produced impressive 5k performances at the Louisville ClassicGeorgina Russell, Taylor Barnes, Bethany Thornhill, and Kaitlyn Keene all placed in the top 10 in the silver section. Russell, Barnes, and Thornhill broke their personal recordswith Russell delivering the top performance by finishing in second place in 18:57.

"The team did well with a number of PR's again! Before we started we heard that some of the guys in the men's team had really improved their times. It was great encouragement for us heading into our 5k race on the fast grassy course," explained Russell, who broke 19 minutes for the first time.

The female Bucs have demonstrated steady progress by posting personal records in every race so far. This time around, Taylor Barnes crossed the finish line in 7th place and clocked 20:16, another career best for the Buccaneers.

"It feels amazing to run another PB! This training has been so good for me and I have a lot of confidence in the coaches getting my time down," said a super-excited Barnes.

Bethany Thornhill (8thand Kaitlyn Keene (9th) both crossed the finish line in 20:30. Thornhill, a former soccer player with only one year of cross country training in her bag, improved her personal best time by nine seconds.

"Four out of six girls improved their PB's which is a a tangible marker of improvement for them. Overall, it was a very positive race for the team," said Aaron Iaun, Assistant Track and Cross Country Coach. "I'd still like to see the girls be brave in the middle of the race and really commit to the pace they establish early. I think they are gaining confidence in their fitness and will only continue to progress as long as they stay consistent in their training," Iaun concluded.

The women's team is preparing for their next race with strengthened confidence and increased enthusiasm. In two weeks the team will head off to KernesvilleNorth Carolina, and chase some more career bests at HPU Vert XC Invitational.
