Bucs fall in straight sets to Radford

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern fell in straight sets to Radford on Friday in a Big South match at the Buc Dome, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23.

CSU falls to 8-15, 3-6 following the loss, while Radford improves to 17-3, 7-2 with the win. Addison Kaderli and Kylie Klein led the Bucs with seven kills each. Rachel Smith led CSU defensively with 13 digs and Madison Martin had 12 digs for the Bucs.

Charleston Southern took an early 12-8 lead after a kill by Kaderli. Radford then won six of the next seven points to go in front 14-13 on an attack error by the Bucs. CSU won five straight points to lead 18-14 on a kill by Monssen. The Highlanders won eight of the next nine points to take a 22-20 lead on a service ace by Maddie Palmer. The Bucs cut the lead to 24-23, but an attack error by CSU gave Radford the first set.

A back-and-forth start to the second set saw the Bucs lead 11-10 before the Highlanders won six points in a row to take a 16-11 lead on a kill by Stephanie Neast. A kill by Kaderli trimmed the lead to 17-13, but Radford won five straight to lead 22-13 on a kill by Haley Kleespies. Kalysia Bates had a kill for CSU to make it 24-15. Valerie Gonzalez then closed the second set with a kill for the Highlanders to give them a 2-0 lead.

Charleston Southern led 8-4 in the third set following a kill by Hannah Western. Radford then won seven of the next eight points to take an 11-9 lead on an attack error by the Bucs. Klein tied the match 14-14 with a kill. A kill by Palmer gave the Highlanders a 19-17 lead, but CSU won three straight points to take a 20-19 lead on a service ace by Martin. Kaderli tied the match 23-23 with a kill. Gonzalez then closed the set with two kills to give Radford the straight set win.

·         Rachel Smith led CSU in both digs (13) and assists (23).

·         Kylie Klein had seven kills and a .238 hitting percentage for the Bucs.
