CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern freshman setter Rachel Smith was named this week's Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week as announced by the Big South Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Smith set up the Charleston Southern efforts on the week as the Buccaneers went 2-0 to open Big South Conference play. CSU topped Presbyterian on the road in four sets on Wednesday night in Clinton, S.C., and then followed up with a 3-1 win at Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon.
The Euclid, Ohio native recorded double-doubles in each of the Big South contests with 33 assists and 12 digs against the Blue Hose and 34 assists and 19 digs against the Runnin' Bulldogs. She also added three service aces and four blocks on the week.
Radford outside hitter Maddie Palmer has been named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, while High Point junior Amy Pilat is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 19-25.
