Volleyball Preview: Bucs travel to Savannah State for Tuesday night non-conference matchup

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues the 2016 season on the road on Tuesday night as the Buccaneers make the trip to Savannah State. Scouting the Opposition
Savannah State enters the midweek matchup against the Bucs with a 0-11 record on the season. The Lady Tigers have struggled on the season with SSU winning two sets overall. Savannah State took points against both Georgia Southern and Troy University on the year. Dominique Ingram leads the Lady Tigers with 2.20 kills per set and a .200 hitting percentage. Alee Quint sets up the SSU offense with 4.71 assists per set. Defensively, Alexis Washington is the digs leader with 3.20 per set. Ingram is the blocking leader with 0.90 per set.

First Matchup between the Bucs and Tigers
Charleston Southern won the previous matchup this season between CSU and Savannah State at the Bash in the Boro on September 1. The Bucs won the first match between the two teams' in the tournament opener at Georgia Southern by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-14. Charleston Southern hit a season-best .305 from the floor and Madison Martin had a match-high 30 digs in the three set win.

Brooke Monssen led the Bucs with 10 kills, while Addison Kaderli added nine kills and a .409 hitting percentage as the Bucs dominated from start to finish against the Lady Tigers. Naiomi Rivera led CSU with 17 assists and added six digs, while Caitlyn Michalski led CSU with four block assists. Savannah State against Big South
Savannah State only takes on two members of the Big South this season, UNC Asheville and Charleston Southern. The Lady Tigers fell 3-0 to UNC Asheville on August 27 in the final match of the Benson Invitational. SSU fell 3-0 to Charleston Southern on September 1.

All-Tournament Honors Again
Sophomore libero Madison Martin continues her strong play at the opening of the 2016 season earning All-Tournament recognition at the CofC Classic. Martin opened the weekend with 28 digs in the tournament opener against Eastern Michigan. The 20-plus digs match, Martin's fifth straight, sparked the CSU defensive efforts in the tournament. She followed it up with 19 digs in the Bucs' loss against College of Charleston.

What's Next for the Bucs
Charleston Southern continues the 2016 season on the road this weekend at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by The Citadel. CSU will take on Austin Peay, Savannah State, Elon and The Citadel over the two-day event. The Bucs open Big South Conference play the following week at Presbyterian (Sept. 20) and Gardner-Webb (Sept. 24).
