Tournament Preview: Buccaneers take on top-seed Coastal Carolina in Big South Championships opener

CHARLESTON, S.C. - No. 8 Charleston Southern takes on No. 1 Coastal Carolina in the first match of the 2015 Big South Volleyball Championships on Thursday afternoon.

Match Notes - CSU vs. Coastal Carolina (Big South First Round)

Scouting Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina enters the Thursday afternoon matchup on a 15-match winning streak as the Chanticleers took the Big South regular season title with a 22-4 overall record and 14-0 Big South record on the season. The Chants dropped two sets in Big South play to High Point and Campbell, and have posted wins over Georgia Tech, Drake and South Carolina on the season. 

2015 Big South Player of the Year Leah Hardeman leads the Chants attack coming into the tournament with the sophomore averaging 3.82 kills per set and a .271 hitting percentage. Eszter Nagy (2.38), Annayka Legros (2.22), Natasa Savovic (2.29) and Lian Bernett (2.16) are also averaging multiple kills per set. Sara Boothe sets up the Chants offense with 7.94 assists per set. Defensively, Carla Cahill is the team leader with 3.86 digs per set, while Nagy is the team leader at the net with 0.77 blocks per set. 

This Season Against Coastal Carolina
Charleston Southern fell in their first matchup of the season against Coastal Carolina on October 9,  dropping a three-set decision, 25-13, 25-22, 25-13. 

Krista Kuglin led the CSU (4-15, 0-3) offense with 13 kills on the night as the freshman outside hitter connected at a .355 clip from the floor. Cassidy Greer set up the offense with 21 assists, while the Bucs were held without a block from the net for the first time all season. 

Charleston Southern dropped their final matchup against the Chants on November 6 in the Buc Dome dropping a three-set decision to the Chanticleers, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21. 

In Friday's match, Parrott paced the CSU offense on the night with 13 kills and a .355 hitting percentage. Addison Kaderli and Kylie Klein both added six kills apiece on the night as the Bucs hit .183 from the floor as a team. Greer set up the offense with 30 assists, while Parrott, Taylor Allman and Madison Martin had two service aces apiece in the match.

Back in the Tournament
Charleston Southern makes their first tournament appearance in the Christy Mooberry coaching era this week as the Buccaneers finished eighth overall in the regular season standings. The Bucs recorded wins over Radford, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian and Winthrop in finishing with a 4-10 overall record in the Big South standings.

Last Time in the Postseason...
Charleston Southern's last postseason appearance came in the 2012 season when the then-No. 8 seed Buccaneers fell to top-seed Liberty at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. in straight sets. CSU was led by All-Freshman team selection Meredith Parrott and libero Ashley Higginbothem. Parrott put away 8 kills with a .357 hitting percentage, while Higginbothim recorded 14 digs in the match.
