Buccaneers fall to High Point in Thursday night showdown

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Charleston Southern fell on Thursday night to open their final road trip of the 2015 season as the Buccaneers dropped a four-set decision to High Point in the Millis Center, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12, 25-13.

Meredith Parrott had a team-high seven kills for the Buccaneers (10-21, 4-9) in the match as CSU struggled to connect from the floor against the Panthers. Addison Kaderli and Katrina Houston had six kills apiece from the floor in the loss.

Cassidy Greer set up the CSU offense with 21 assists from the floor, while Taylor Allman had a team-high 17 digs to lead the defensive efforts. Madison Martin added 10 digs from the backline, while Kylie Klein added five blocks from the floor. The Bucs finished the match with 10 total team blocks on the night.

High Point (21-8, 11-2) was led by Haley Barnes' 22 kills as the Panthers hit .273 as a team from the floor in the match. Gabi Mirand set up the Panthers' offense with 44 assists, while Megan Kennedy led five players in double-digit digs with 17. Savannah Angel led the Panthers with four total blocks.

The Panthers broke an 11-11 tie in the first set with four straight points capped by a Barnes' kill in building a 15-11 lead. CSU was able to bring the set back to within three points at 17-14 following a Houston kill, but that was as close as the Bucs were able to get in falling in the opening frame, 25-19.

Four Parrott kills sparked the Bucs in the second set as Charleston Southern evened the match at the break with the 25-22 set win. High Point jumped out to the 10-4 lead in the first set before the Bucs rallied back. CSU used a 10-4 run to tie the frame up at 14-14 on a solo block from Klein. Klein finished with four blocks in the set including back-to-back blocks with Kaderli and Greer to build a 23-21 set lead. A Parrott service ace gave the Bucs set point and a Panther error sent the teams into the break tied 1-1.

High Point jumped out to double-digit leads in both the third and fourth sets in closing out the win.

Charleston Southern closes out the 2015 regular season on the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C. and Gore Arena to take on Campbell. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
