Buccaneers sweep The Citadel; Record fourth straight home win on Tuesday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern picked up their fourth home win in a row on Tuesday night as the Buccaneers topped The Citadel in the Buc Dome in straight sets, 25-19, 25-10, 25-20.

The Bucs' sweep splits the season series with the Bulldogs as Addison Kaderli led a potent CSU attack on the evening with 15 kills and a .293 hitting percentage. CSU did not trail in the match until the third set and closed out the evening on an 8-1 run to wrap up the non-conference portion of their 2015 schedule.

Meredith Parrott had 10 kills and connected at a .391 rate from the floor to pace a CSU (10-19) offense that hit .265 overall as a team in the match. Connor Malone added eight kills over the three sets, while Cassidy Greer set up the offense with 32 assists. Taylor Allman, Kaderli and Madison Martin combined for seven service aces for the Bucs' offense.

Defensively, Ashley Higginbothem paced the backline with 17 digs, while Martin was also in double-digits with 12. Parrott led the Bucs' blocking efforts at the net with six blocks (two solo) in the match.

Bailey Kernodle led The Citadel (7-22) on the evening with a double-double including 11 kills and 11 digs from the floor. Moriah Smith added seven kills and 11 digs as the Bulldogs struggled to connect in the match with a .071 hitting percentage.

Charleston Southern led the first set from start to finish as the Buccaneers took the first three points on their way to building the 1-0 lead with the 25-19 set win. The Citadel was able to pull the set back to within one point three separate times in the set. However, a Kylie Klein kill late in the set sparked a 5-0 run by the Bucs and the set was capped by a block from Parrott and Krista Kuglin to close out the frame.

The Bucs built a double-digit lead in the second set in coasting to the 2-0 lead at the break. CSU built a 17-7 lead midway through the set led by five Kaderli kills and the freshman outside hitter connected on back-to-back service aces late in the frame to provide the spark for CSU in the set. Malone capped off the set with back-to-back kills to give CSU the 25-10 set win.

The third set featured 10 ties and four lead changes with The Citadel holding the 19-17 lead in the frame following back-to-back Sumerlyn Carruthers' kills. The Bucs rallied back with an 8-1 run sparked by a Parrott solo block, and the senior middle blocker put in a pair of kills down the stretch including the match-clinching kill to complete the sweep.

Charleston Southern closes out their seven-match home stand on Friday evening as the Buccaneers host Coastal Carolina in the Buc Dome for Senior Night. CSU will recognize 2015 seniors Katrina Houston, Cassidy Greer, Ashley Higginbothem and Meredith Parrott prior to the match. First serve between the Bucs and the Chants is set for 7 p.m.
