Malone, Bucs sweep past Presbyterian on Friday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern connected on their eighth-highest hitting percentage all-time on Friday night as the Buccaneers swept visiting Presbyterian in the Buc Dome, 25-16, 26-14, 25-17.

The Bucs hit .402 as a team in the match, their third highest percentage since the 2010 season, paced by Connor Malone's .579 rate from the floor as CSU split the season series against the Blue Hose.

Malone led the Bucs (8-19, 3-7) with 11 kills from the floor, while Addison Kaderli added 11 kills and 16 digs to complete the double-double from the floor. Meredith Parrott added 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage as CSU won their second consecutive Big South home match.

Cassidy Greer set up the offense with 36 assists, while Madison Martin (9 digs) and Kylie Klein (4 blocks) were also among CSU's leaders.

Ashton Stewart led the Blue Hose (3-21, 1-9) from the floor with eight kills, while Sara Rogers set up the offense with 25 assists. Lena Gavin was the team leader with 10 digs.

Parrott led the Bucs with four kills in the first set as CSU battled through six ties and three lead changes in taking the first set, 25-16. With the Bucs trailing 8-6, CSU went on an 11-4 run covering Allman and Parrott's serve to take control of the first frame. Parrott connected on all four of her kills late in the set, while Malone put in the final point to give the Bucs the 1-0 lead.

The second set was tightly contested over the first eight points before the Bucs broke open the frame on their way to the 25-14 win. With the score tied 4-4, CSU went on a 14-6 run in building a 20-12 lead. Malone had five kills during the frame for the Bucs including two late, while Allman put in the set-winning serve to give CSU the 2-0 advantage at the break.

The third set was all Bucs as Kaderli put in five kills during the set as CSU connected at a .433 clip. With the frame tied 8-8, the Bucs again went on a run building a 20-12 lead on their way to closing out the sweep.

Redshirt senior libero Ashley Higginbothem finished the match with 521 digs for the season, sitting one dig behind current CSU record holder Carrie O'Connell (522, 1992).

The Buccaneers continue their home stand tomorrow afternoon against Winthrop. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
