Volleyball Preview: Bucs host Presbyterian and Winthrop to continue homestand

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues their homestand this weekend as the Buccaneers host Presbyterian on Friday night and Winthrop on Saturday afternoon in the Buc Dome.

CSU hosts Presbyterian on Friday night hosting the Blue Hose at 7 p.m. in their annual breast cancer awareness game. The Bucs continue their home stand on Saturday against Winthrop with first serve set for 4 p.m.

CSU Match Notes vs. Presbyterian*, vs. Winthrop*

Scouting Presbyterian
Presbyterian enters the Friday night matchup with a 3-20 overall record, 1-8 in Big South play on the season. The Blue Hose are 0-9 away from home on the season and have struggled on the season in conference play with Big South losses to Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, Campbell and High Point. The Blue Hose are 1-5 overall at home this year with a 3-1 win over Charleston Southern on September 25. 

Rachel Elshoff (2.19) and Sierra Davis (2.18) are both averaging multiple kills per set to pace the Blue Hose offense, while Ashton Stewart is the team leader with a .172 hitting percentage. Sara Rogers (4.92) and Jaclyn Brewington (5.44) both set up the Blue Hose offense on the season. Defensively, Mikayla Register leads the team with 3.84 digs per set, while Elshoff is averaging 2.53 digs per frame. At the net, Stewart leads the way with 0.52 blocks per set. 

Scouting Winthrop
Winthrop enters the weekend with a 9-15 overall record, 4-5 in Big South play on the year prior to their Friday night match at Coastal Carolina. The Eagles are 4-6 away from home this season and enter the weekend on a skid with losses in four of their past five matches. Winthrop topped Radford at home during the span defeating the Highlanders, 3-2. Winthrop's lone Big South road win came on October 9 at UNC Asheville.

Lourdes Rosario leads the Eagles with 3.20 kills per set, while Annelies Dokter (2.69) and Emma Weakland (2.36) are both averaging multiple kills per set. Weakland is the team leader with a .300 hitting percentage. Defensively, Maria Volstad (3.10), Carlie Skelton (3.08) and Mallary McFadden (3.06) are all among Winthrop's digs leaders. Brianna Gray is the blocking leader at 1.01 blocks per set. 

Previously Against Presbyterian
Addison Kaderli had a match-high 12 kills for the Bucs as CSU hit .231 from the floor as a team in their Big South opener against PC. Katrina Houston narrowly missed out on the double-double with 10 kills and nine digs, while Kylie Klein had a match-high six blocks in the CSU loss. Ashley Higginbothem led the Bucs' backline with 12 digs in the contest. 

Previously Against Winthrop
Katrina Houston had a team-high 10 kills in the match as the Bucs (4-14, 0-2) hit .126 from the floor over the three sets in the loss. Kylie Klein and Addison Kaderli had six kills apiece, while Cassidy Greer set up the offense with 18 assists from the floor.  Ashley Higginbothem led the Bucs and finished the match with 13 digs, while Klein finished the match with six blocks in pacing CSU at the net.
