Volleyball Preview: Bucs continue home stand against UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues Big South play this weekend as the Buccaneers host UNC Asheville on Friday and Gardner-Webb on Saturday in the Buc Dome.

CSU hosts Asheville on Friday night on the Big South Network with first serve set for 7 p.m. The Bucs close out the weekend against Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. Live Stats for both matches are available at CSUSports.com, while live updates will be provided on Twitter @CSUGameDay.

CSU Match Notes vs. UNC Asheville*, vs. Gardner-Webb*

Scouting UNC Asheville
UNC Asheville enters the Friday night matchup with a 10-8 overall record, 3-3 in Big South play on the season. The Bulldogs are 2-4 away from home on the year and enter the match with losses in three of their past four matches. Among their road wins include a 3-2 win over The Citadel and a 3-0 win over Radford. Their conference road losses include Liberty and Gardner-Webb.

Christine Lakatos leads the Bulldogs with 2.60 kills per set, while Cara Guthrie is the team leader with 2.00 kills per set. Madison Vaughn is Asheville's hitting leader at .336 on the season. Amanda Powers (5.87) and Katie Davis (5.08) combine to set up the Bulldogs' offense. Defensively, Bryn Pfeiffer is the team leader at 4.85 digs per set, while Vaughn is the team leader at the net with 1.20 blocks per set.

Scouting Gardner-Webb
Gardner-Webb enters the weekend with a 9-14 overall record, 3-3 in Big South play on the year prior to their Friday night match at Coastal Carolina. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 2-5 away from home this season, but enter the weekend on a five-match winning streak dating back to October 9. GWU has topped Presbyterian, Winthrop, N.C. Central, UNC Asheville and S.C. State during the stretch.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by Taylor Lillard's 2.51 kills per set, while Tyra Montour (2.38) is also averaging multiple kills on the season. Jene Lee is the team leader with a .272 hitting percentage on the year. Justine Bowers is the team leader with 7.58 assists per set. Defensively, Anna Pashkova leads GWU with 5.13 digs per set, while Sydney Marshall is the team leader at the net with 1.26 blocks per set.

Last Season Against UNC Asheville
Charleston Southern picked up their lone Big South win of the season last year in their only matchup against the Bulldogs, topping Asheville 3-1 on October 24 inside the Justice Center. Meredith Parrott recorded her first 20 kill match of the season, reaching the mark in just 28 attack attempts to pace the Buccaneers to comebacks in all four sets in recording their first Big South Conference win of the season.

Last Season Against Gardner-Webb
Charleston Southern fell in their lone match against Gardner-Webb in the 2015 season, dropping to the Runnin' Bulldogs, 3-0, on October 25. Siraya Windsor recorded her fifth consecutive double-double and her 12th of the season in Charleston Southern's 3-0 loss to Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena.

Chasing 1,000 Kills
Meredith Parrott is looking to become just the sixth player in Charleston Southern history to reach the 1,000 career kill mark this season as the senior middle blocker from Mobile, Ala. enters the weekend with 995 career kills. The last player to reach the mark was CSU all-time great Amanda Hill in 2007-10, who established the CSU all-time kills record with 1,905 career kills. Parrott is also among the Buccaneers' all-time leaders in hitting percentage, entering the weekend with a .260 career hitting percentage, sitting sixth all-time with the Bucs.
