Buccaneers drop Big South road opener to Presbyterian, 3-1

CLINTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern dropped their Big South road opener on Friday night, falling to Presbyterian inside the Templeton Center, 25-23, 11-25, 25-22, 25-17.

Addison Kaderli had a match-high 12 kills for the Bucs (4-13, 0-1) as CSU hit .231 from the floor as a team in their Big South opener against PC. Katrina Houston narrowly missed out on the double-double with 10 kills and nine digs, while Kylie Klein had a match-high six blocks in the CSU loss. Ashley Higginbothem led the Bucs' backline with 12 digs in the contest.

Presbyterian (3-11, 1-0) was led by Rachel Elshoff's double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Jaclyn Brewington set up the offense with 38 assists as the Blue Hose hit .112 as a team from the floor. Mikayla Register led the backline with 16 digs.

The Blue Hose jumped ahead in the first set as PC scored eight of the first 10 points on Ashton Stewart's and Brewington's serve. PC held the 16-7 advantage following a Stewart kill before CSU battled their way back into the set.

The Bucs went on an 11-2 run on Houston's serve, taking advantage of three PC errors to bring the set back to within 18-16. PC went up 24-17 late in the frame, but the Bucs staved off set point with a 6-0 run before Elshoff put in the final kill to give PC the 1-0 lead.

Meredith Parrott and Houston had three kills apiece in the second set as the Buccaneers took 12 of the first 16 points on their way to building a double-digit lead. CSU went up 16-6 on a Parrott kill on their way to cruising to the 25-11 win.

The third set featured 14 ties and six lead changes with neither team able to build more than a three point advantage throughout the frame. The Bucs tied the set up 21-21 on a kill by Hannah Western, but the Blue Hose took four of the final five points with Samantha Del Toro capping the set with a solo block to give PC the win.

With the Bucs leading 10-8 in the fourth set following a Houston kill, Presbyterian went on a 15-3 run to take control of the frame in building a 23-13 lead. The Bucs fought back late with kills by Western and Greer before Elshoff put away the match with the final kill.

CSU continues on the road this weekend as the Bucs travel to Rock Hill, S.C. and Winthop University on Saturday afternoon. First serve inside the WU Coliseum is set for 4 p.m.
