Bucs drop 3-1 decision at home to Coastal Carolina on Friday

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern dropped a Big South decision on Friday night inside the Buc Dome, falling to visiting Coastal Carolina in four sets, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14.

Meredith Parrott led the Bucs with 14 kills and a .344 hitting percentage, while Siraya Windsor had a season-high 20 digs in the loss for CSU. Coastal Carolina was led by Leah Hardeman's double-double with 22 kills and 27 digs in the win.

CSU falls to 8-14, 0-5 in Big South play, while Coastal Carolina improves to 14-4, 4-1 in conference action.

Windsor and Katrina Houston had nine kills apiece for the Bucs on the evening as CSU hit .145 as a team from the floor in the match. Kylie Klein added six kills and four total blocks to pace the Bucs defensively at the net. Cassidy Greer set up the CSU offense with 37 assists and added eight digs and five kills to the mix. Taylor Allman had 16 digs and Ashley Higginbothem had 12 of her own to pace CSU's defensive efforts.

Sam Skryd also had a double-double for Coastal Carolina with 17 assists and 11 digs, while Lian Bernett had 12 kills and 17 digs for the Chanticleers. Aleksandra Djuric led the Chants with 32 assists, while Jenna Orner led the backline with 20 digs.

Parrott led the Bucs with five kills in the opening set as the Buccaneers jumped ahead to a 9-3 lead in the opening frame. The Chants rallied back with a 12-4 run to build a 15-13 advantage following a kill by Miona Milovanovich. The Bucs and Chants trade points, tying the set up at 17-17 following a kill by Parrott. Parrott followed with another kill, sparking a 4-0 CSU run as the Bucs took nine of the final 11 points with Windsor placing in the final point to cap the CSU 25-19 set win.

 The second set went back and forth as the teams tied it up 12 times with four lead changes in the frame with the final coming at 19-19 following a Coastal Carolina attack error. The Chants broke the tie on a CSU setting error and closed out the frame on a 6-2 run with Bernett putting in the final two kills for Coastal to even the match at 1-1.

CSU took a 16-13 lead in the third set following a pair of Houston kills and a Coastal Carolina set error. The Chants rallied back to knot the frame up for the eighth time on a CSU attack error and Hardeman served Coastal to a 22-17 lead. The Bucs mad a late rally on a Parrott kill and a Parrott and Windsor combination block, but Bernett put in the final two points to give the Chants the 25-20 set win.

The Chants took the first set points of the final set on their way to building a double-digit lead in taking the final set from the Bucs 25-14.

Charleston Southern returns to the road next week as the Bucs step out of Big South play on Wednesday evening, traveling to Durham, N.C. to take on N.C. Central. First serve inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium is set for 5 p.m.
