HIGH POINT, N.C. - Charleston Southern fell in three sets to host High Point on Saturday afternoon inside the Millis Center, dropping the Big South Conference match 25-14, 25-13, 25-23.
Meredith Parrott had seven kills to pace the Bucs offense in the match, while Connor Malone had five kills and three blocks as CSU fell to 7-13, 0-4 in Big South Conference play with the loss. High Point improves to 7-9, 1-2 in conference action with the victory.
Cassidy Greer set up the CSU attack with 15 assists, while Taylor Allman (14) and Ashley Higginbothem (10) both were in double-digits in digs. Kylie Klein equaled Malone with three blocks on the afternoon.
Kristin Heldt led High Point with 15 kills on the afternoon, while Savannah Angel had 11 as the Panthers hit .304 as a team in the match. Gabi Mirand set up the HPU attack with 41 assists, while Wavie Chin (14) and Chelsea Davis (13) both had double-digit digs. Katie Vincent led the Panthers with seven total blocks at the net as High Point recorded 12 blocks in the match.
High Point took a 19-7 lead in the first set and a 21-9 lead in the second set in building a 2-0 lead heading into the break as the Panthers took control of the match early.
The third set swung back and forth throughout the entire frame, featuring 18 ties and eight lead changes. Neither team build more than a two point advantage as CSU went up 9-7 following a block by Parrott and Malone. The Bucs and Panthers continued to swap points and the lead throughout the match with CSU building a 23-22 advantage following a Parrott kill. However, Davis followed with a kill and Heldt had back-to-back to end the match.
Charleston Southern remains on the road this week as the Bucs travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on South Carolina State on Tuesday evening. First serve between the Bucs and the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m.
