CHARLESTON, S.C. - Meredith Parrott had 10 kills and Siraya Windsor narrowly missed out on a double-double as Charleston Southern swept visiting Savannah State on Tuesday night inside the Buc Dome, 25-10, 25-22, 25-17.
Parrott hit .409 in the match to pace the Buccaneers' offense in the match, while Windsor added nine kills and a pair of service aces as CSU trailed only once in the evening in snapping a four-match losing streak.
Charleston Southern improved to 6-9 overall with the win, while Savannah State fell to 3-11.
Cassidy Greer set up the Bucs attack with 20 assists, while Brooke Green had eight assists in the third set to lead CSU to the win. Taylor Allman led the backline with 14 digs, while Windsor added 12 in narrowly missing out on her eighth double-double of the season. Kylie Klein added two blocks to lead the Bucs at the net.
Savannah State was led by Zariya Thomas' six kills in the match, while Caitlynn Masoe had 12 assists as the Tigers hit -.053 from the floor as a team. Alexis Washington led the SSU defensive efforts with 11 digs.
The Tigers took their lone lead of the evening in the first two points of the match before CSU went on an 8-1 run led by a pair of Parrott kills to take the 8-3 lead early. The Bucs lead reached double-digits at 16-6 as CSU cruised to the opening 25-10 win.
The Bucs never trailed in the second set, going up by as many as five at 15-10 following a Windsor kill. The Tigers rallied to cut the lead back to within two at 24-22, but CSU went up 2-0 with the set win following an SSU attack error.
The final set saw CSU take a 16-9 lead following a 7-2 run on Allman and Green's serve with Green placing in a service ace during the stretch. Green added a late kill as CSU took advantage of two late SSU service errors in closing out the sweep.
Charleston Southern remains at home this weekend, hosting Presbyterian on Friday night inside the Buc Dome as CSU opens up Big South Conference play. First serve between the Bucs and the Blue Hose is set for 7 p.m.
