CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern steps out of Big South action on Tuesday evening as the Buccaneers welcome East Carolina to the Buc Dome. First serve between the Bucs and the Pirates is set for 7 p.m.
CSU looks to overturn a recent home skid as the Buccaneers fell for the first time in the 2013 season at home this past weekend, dropping matches to Campbell and High Point as the Bucs fell to 5-13 overall on the year.
Sophomore outside hitter Katrina Houston continues to lead the Buccaneers offense on the season with 2.90 kills per set, while Meredith Parrott (2.31), Siraya Windsor (2.29) and Erin LaVenice (2.12) are also averaging over two kills per set on the season. LaVenice is also pacing the Buccaneers offense with a .317 hitting percentage, while Meredith Parrott is connecting at a .267 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Maggie Murphy paces the Buccaneers efforts on the backline with 3.30 digs per set, while Windsor is averaging 2.47 on the season. At the net, LaVenice is the team leader with 1.07 blocks per set, while Parrott is close behind in averaging 0.72.
East Carolina and Charleston Southern have taken on three common opponents in the 2013 season in The Citadel, Campbell and Savannah State. The Pirates and Bucs have matching 2-1 records against their opponents, with both teams defeating The Citadel and Savannah State.
Nicole Willis leads East Carolina on the season with 3.98 kills per set on the season, while Whitney Campbell averaging 2.06 kills per set. Zarah Cecich and Bella Borgiotti combine to set up the ECU attack in averaging 13.80 assists per set.
Defensively, East Carolina is led by Shelby Beasley's 3.40 digs per set, while Willis is the team leader with 3.09 digs per set. At the net, ECU is paced by Kierra Lee-Dunson averaging 0.85 blocks per set.
In the all-time season series, Charleston Southern and East Carolina is tied overall at 5-5.
