CHARLESTON, S.C. - One year after playing a schedule which saw Charleston Southern host two tournaments and feature 16 games at home, the Buccaneers return to the road for four away tournaments this season, while nine home matches highlight the Charleston Southern volleyball schedule as announced by head coach Al Givens on Wednesday afternoon.
Seven of the nine home contests will feature Big South Conference matchups, beginning with Campbell on October 4, while Senior Day comes against rival Coastal Carolina on November 8.
"Our schedule is more regional in nature this year but in our preseason tournaments we will get the chance to play out of region teams in DePaul, Florida Atlantic, Cal-State Bakersfield, Mississippi Valley State," said Givens in regards to the Buccaneers schedule for the 2013 season. "Tough nonconference region matchups against Charlotte, Georgia Southern, Davidson, East Carolina University and Jacksonville are teams that we did not compete against last season, but this schedule will allow our team to build into our conference season."
Charleston Southern begins the season on the road with their first seven contests away from the Buccaneer Fieldhouse, beginning with the Davidson College Tournament running from August 30-31. The Bucs will take on Cal State-Bakersfield, Charlotte and host Davidson during the tournament to open the 2013 season.
After a short trip to local rival College of Charleston on September 3 to open the month of September, the Buccaneers head to the warm climate and sunny skies of Jacksonville, Fla. as the Bucs compete in the Jacksonville University Tournament from September 6-7. The Bucs take on Mississippi Valley State, Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic over the two-day event.
September 10 sees Charleston Southern open up their 2013 home schedule as the Buccaneers welcome Savannah State to Charleston, S.C., and the Buc Dome. Last season, Charleston Southern went 3-0 against the Tigers, picking up wins against SSU at home, at Savannah State and at The Citadel Tri-Match.
The Buccaneers return to the road for their final two tournaments, traveling to The Citadel Tournament from September 13-14 and the Georgia Southern Tournament from September 20-21.
At The Citadel Tournament, Charleston Southern battles against South Carolina State on the first day of the tournament, while taking on DePaul and The Citadel on the tournament's final day.
At the Georgia Southern Tournament, the Bucs open against Jacksonville State in Statesboro, Ga., before taking on Central Michigan and Georgia Southern to wrap up their final tournament of the season.
Charleston Southern begins Big South Conference play to wrap up the month of September, opening up on the road as the Buccaneers travel to Presbyterian on September 27 and Winthrop on the 28th.
The month of October brings the beginning of Charleston Southern's home Big South Conference schedule as five of CSU's nine games in the month will be in the friendly confines of the Buccaneer Fieldhouse.
Charleston Southern begins a three match home stand on October 4, welcoming Campbell for CSU's Big South Conference home opener. The remainder of the home stand features matches on October 5 against High Point and a non-conference battle against East Carolina on October 8.
A three game road swing featuring matches against Coastal Carolina, Liberty and Radford, leads to a home conference weekend on October 24-25 against Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville. The month of October ends with Charleston Southern on the road, traveling to Orangeburg, S.C., taking on S.C. State for the second time in the season on October 29.
The Buccaneers 2013 home slate ends with their first three matches in November as Charleston Southern hosts Presbyterian and Winthrop over November 1-2, before recognizing their 2013 seniors on Senior Day on November 8 against Coastal Carolina.
CSU's regular season ends on the road as the Buccaneers travel to High Point and Campbell, wrapping up the Big South Conference regular season on November 15-16.
The 2013 Big South Conference Championships will be held at Presbyterian Clinton, S.C., this year, running from November 21-23, with the first round of the NCAA Tournament running from December 5-7.
