Buccaneers compete at the Pepsi Relays and VertKlasse Meeting

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continued the second day of the Pepsi Relays and started the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday as the Buccaneers track and field team took on the fields at the University of Florida and High Point University.

Charleston Southern had three female athletes compete on Thursday on the opening day of the Pepsi Relays as Kolisha Coleman, Jasmine Pilgrim, and Aluntrea Davis took on the field in the 200m open. Coleman paced the group finishing 32nd overall with a time of 24.39. Pilgrim finished 52nd overall in the deep field with a time of 24.99, while Davis placed 66th with a time of 25.89 in the event.

The Buccaneers continued on Friday at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard track.

Danielle Burnett led the Bucs in the 400m dash with a time of 54.99 to place 24th overall in the deep field.

TeJyrica Robinson led CSU in the 100m hurdles event with a time of 14.81 to finish 62nd among the field.

The Bucs' 4x100m relay team crossed the line in 45.98 seconds to pace the Bucs in the event. CSU finished 46th among the teams in the field and first among the conference schools.

The Bucs' 4x400m relay team finished 33rd in the event. The quartet of Coleman, Burnett, Pilgrim, and Alexis Adams finished with a time of 3:51.08.

At the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point, Madison Burkholder led the Bucs in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:10.94 to finish 15th overall in the event.

Bethany Thornhill also competed in the distance events on the night with a time of 20:41.17 in the women's 5000m run to finish 44th in the field.

Demisha Norman paced the Bucs in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.15m to finish 25th in the event. Anaia Hood joined her in the event field finishing 34th overall with a jump of 5.04m.

Alexus Foreman led the CSU throwers in the women's shot put event with a top-10 finish in the field. The freshman recorded a long distance of 12.52m to finish 10th overall in the event. Briana Sims finished 14th overall with a long throw of 12.14m. Madison McCoy (11.34m, 23rd) and Milan Williams (11.32, 25th) rounded out the group in the event.

Megan Newton led the Bucs in the women's javelin throw finishing in the top 20 in the field. She recorded a long throw of 29.58m to finish 17th overall.

McCoy led the Bucs in the women's hammer throw group B with a 15th place result following her throw of 39.26m. Foreman finished 17th overall with a throw of 36.21m

Niegel Simmons paced the Buccaneers in the men's long jump at the field finishing ninth overall. The freshman finished with a distance of 6.66m to finish fourth among the Big South competitors in the field.

Jacob Moore finished just outside the top 10 in the shot put event with the senior thrower finishing 11th overall with a distance of 14.31m. Ryan Spiecha finished 19th overall with a throw of 13.99m, while Clarence Moss was 28th overall with a throw of 13.24m.

Josiah Edwards led the Bucs in the men's high jump group B. The freshman cleared 1.84m to finish 13th overall in the field.
