CONWAY, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's track and field team went up the road to Conway, S.C., this weekend to compete in the CCU-Asics Invitational, focusing on the field and distance events.
Tia Habersham led the women in the discus with a toss of 34.31m (112ft, 7 inches). In the shot put, Patria Norman finished as the runner-up with a toss of 12.06m (39ft, 7 inches), while Habersham finished 20th with a distance of 9.83m (32 ft, 3 inches).
Norman also competed in the 100m hurdles, finishing third in her heat and 11th overall with a time of 15.83 seconds. Bridgette Copeland won her heat with a time of 15.89 seconds, finishing 14th, while Christi English finished 21st overall with a time of 16.11 seconds.
In the long jump, Copeland finished sixth with a leap of 5.21m (17ft, 1.25m), while she claimed sixth in the triple jump as well with a total distance of 11.33m (37ft, 2.25 inches). English posted the best jump of the day in the high jump clearing 1.45m (4ft, 9 inches), claiming ninth in the triple jump (10.84m, 35 ft, 6.75 inches).
Brittany Owens ran well in the 5,000m run finishing third overall with a time of 1:49.59, just four seconds off the winning time. Tracey Epley was the lone participant in the 1500m run, clocking in at 6:13.71 to finish 55th.
In the 400m dash, Ebony Muller finished in 1:02.75 to finish 24th overall. Aundraya Camp ran the 800m event in 2:34.35 to finish 35th overall, edging out Brittany Owens who ran 2:41.52 to finish 47th. Epley rounded out the CSU entries with a 3:02.23 finish for 61st.
CSU will return up Hwy. 17 next week for the Shamrock
Invitational, also hosted by Coastal Carolina.
