CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern's Sophie Cloessner was recognized as the 2018 Big South Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight four individual honors the Buccaneers received as the conference announced its annual women's tennis postseason awards on Tuesday morning.

Cloessner earned First Team All-Conference honors for the third consecutive season and was a Second Team All-Conference Doubles recipient for the second time. Freshman Madalina Man earned Second Team All-Conference Singles accolades and joined Cloessner as a Second Team All-Conference Doubles recipient.

The senior from Wetzlar, Germany becomes the third CSU women's tennis player to receive Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in as many seasons and the sixth Buccaneer to earn recognition overall. Former alum Nicolin Luecke earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in both 2016 and 2017 for the Bucs.

Cloessner boasts a 3.944 GPA while majoring in management and minoring in psychology. She boasts an 11-4 overall record on the season in dual match singles competition and a 5-2 record in Big South Conference play. Among her notable wins this season include straight set victories over opponents from UNC Wilmington, Campbell, Elon, and DePaul, as well as a three-set win over Emory that helped secure the Bucs' win over the Eagles.

Man capped a strong freshman campaign by earning Second Team All-Conference Singles recognition. The Lexington, S.C. native went 8-5 in her inaugural season with the Bucs lining up primarily on court no. 4 in singles play. She was 5-2 in conference competition with notable wins over opponents from UNC Greensboro, Liberty, Radford, and Emory.

The duo of Cloessner and Man were among the conference's best tandems in doubles play on the year. They lined up in all 18 matches on court no. 1 earning an 11-7 record and a 5-2 mark in conference competition. Notable wins included victories over UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro, Liberty, Radford, and Elon.
