Bucs sweep Tigers to run home win streak to 15 consecutive matches

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern ran its winning streak to 15 matches in a row as the Buccaneers topped Savannah State on Saturday morning at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex, 7-0.

The Bucs (4-3) swept all three doubles matches and then took four sets in straight sets and a pair in the third set tiebreaker to complete their third sweep of the season. Savannah State (0-4) fell for the fourth time in 2018 with the loss.

CSU took all three doubles matches in quick succession as the Bucs took the opening point of the match against the Tigers.

Sophie Cloessner and Madalina Man teamed up to top Muskaan Ranjan and Sansriti Ranjan on court no. 1, 6-0. Valeria Koussenkova and Filippa Ericson added a 6-1 win over Sofia Shut'ko and Rachida El Kateb on court no. 2, while Kimberley Koerner and Yana Morar topped Ekaterina Vorobeva and Shakendra Alston on court no. 3, 6-2.

Koussenkova continued her trend of being the first off the court in singles play as the senior topped Vorobeva on court no. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Tyler Kirk followed shortly after with a 6-0, 6-0 win over El Kateb on court no. 5. Cloessner followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court no. 1 over Shut'ko to secure the CSU win.

Schmitz added a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sansriti Ranjan on court no. 3 to add the Bucs' fifth point of the afternoon.

Grace Waldron and Femcke van Rensburg followed with wins in three-set tiebreakers to secure the sweep. Waldron battled back on court no. 6 from a 6-4 loss in the first set against Alston to take the second frame 7-5. She swept all 10 points in the tiebreaker to secure the match.

Van Rensburg took the first set against Muskaan, 6-3, but fell in the second frame 6-4. The duo swapped points throughout the tiebreaker before van Rensburg closed out the 10-8 win.
