CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern ran its winning streak to double-digits on Thursday afternoon as the Buccaneers topped visiting Buffalo at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex, 6-1.
CSU (10-1) picked up the doubles point and won the singles matches on courts 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, to run their winning streak to 10 consecutive matches. Buffalo fell to 6-5 on the season following the loss.
Kimberley Koerner and Yana Morar started the match with a 6-2 doubles win over Laura Holterbosch and Mercedes Rubio on court no. 3. Buffalo followed with a 6-2 win on court no. 1 with the Bulls' duo of Margarita Kotok and Tanja Stojanovska topping CSU's Sophie Cloessner and Nicolin Luecke. The Bucs clinched the point on court no. 2 with Mi'Kola Cooper and Valeria Koussenkova topping Anna Savchenko and Chantal Blanco, 6-3.
Morar was the first off the court in singles play for CSU with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Holterbosch on court no. 6 to give the Bucs the 2-0 lead. Cooper topped Rubio on court no. 3, 6-1, 6-2, to pull CSU within match point. Koussenkova sealed the CSU win with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Savchenko on court no. 5.
Koerner continued her winning ways this season with a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-2) win on court no. 4 over Emel Abibula to stretch the CSU lead to 5-0. Koerner remains the lone player in the Big South to stay undefeated in singles play on the season as the Wedel, Germany native improved to 11-0 on the year.
Stojanovska put the Bulls on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Luecke on court no. 1.
Cloessner closed out the CSU win on court no. 2 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Blanco.
Charleston Southern remains at home on Wednesday afternoon as the Buccaneers host Presbyterian in Big South Conference play. First serve at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
