CSU set to host Appalachian State in midweek tennis match at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues its 2017 home schedule on Thursday afternoon as the Buccaneers welcome Appalachian State to the Buccaneer Tennis Complex for a non-conference matchup. First serve in doubles play between the Bucs and the Mountaineers is set for 2 p.m.

The Bucs (6-1) will put their six-match winning streak to the test and look to shake off some rust in their first match in 12 days after their weekend trip through the state of Virginia was canceled this past weekend.

In their last outing, CSU picked up its second win in Big South Conference play on the season with a dominant over Gardner-Webb on March 4. CSU swept all three doubles matches and took singles wins on courts 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6, to top the Runnin' Bulldogs and improve the Bucs' record in Big South play to 2-0 in the 2017 season.

The CSU winning streak started on February 11 against Wofford and continued with wins over South Carolina State, Savannah State, Stetson, Campbell, and GWU. During the span, CSU has swept three opponents (S.C. State, Savannah St., and Campbell) while topping two opponents by scores of 6-1.

Appalachian State enters the match with a 4-11 overall record. The Mountaineers have not entered Sun Belt Conference play at this point in the season.

Appalachian State has already taken on four Big South Conference schools in the 2017 season and has posted a 1-3 record overall with their lone win coming on February 11 against Radford. The Mountaineers fell in their matchups to Campbell (5-2), UNC Asheville (5-2), and most recently, Gardner-Webb (4-3).

Prior to Thursday's match against the Bucs, Appalachian State will take on College of Charleston on Wednesday afternoon at Patriots Point.

Kimberley Koerner (7-0) and Yana Morar (6-0) continue to remain undefeated in the 2017 season with the Bucs' duo combining for a perfect 13-0 record in singles play on the season. Koerner has played primarily on court no. 4 for the Buccaneers, while Morar has seen time at both courts 5 and 6 for CSU in posting a perfect record in her first season at CSU.

Big South Dominance
Junior Sophie Cloessner has put together one of the most impressive streaks in Big South Conference history as the Wetzlar, Germany native has gone a perfect 19-0 in conference play since her first match with the Bucs in the 2015 season. Cloessner went a perfect 9-0 last season in earning Big South First Team All-Conference honors in singles play.

Charleston Southern has posted a 15-5 record in doubles play in the 2017 season led by the duos of Cloessner and Nicolin Luecke (6-1) on court no. 1 and Koerner and Femcke van Rensburg (5-1) on court no. 3. The Bucs are 6-0 on the season when winning the doubles point in 2017.

Appalachian State Leaders
Rebecca Morse and Heidi Swope have led ASU's efforts in the 2017 season in singles play with the duo combining to go 2-13 overall on court no. 1. The depth of the Mountaineers' lineup comes from courts 4, 5, and 6, with the trio of Melissa Machado (5-6), Taylor Bygrave (5-4), and Megan Mullen (6-4), posting the most singles wins on the season. Mullen and Gabrielle Wreder team up to lead ASU's doubles efforts with a 4-5 record on court no. 1, while Swope and McKayla Zupan have combined to go 5-5 on court no. 2.
