CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern looks to get back to its winning ways Wednesday when the Buccaneers host High Point in a Big South women's soccer contest. Kickoff at the CSU Soccer Field is at 3 p.m.
CSU (5-4-2, 2-3-1 Big South) looks to snap a two-game losing streak, dropping 2-1 decisions to Campbell and Gardner-Webb last week. High Point is tied for second in the conference with a 3-1-2 league record (5-6-3 overall) and has outscored Presbyterian and UNC Asheville by a combined 7-1 in its last two outings.
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute against the Runnin' Bulldogs on Riley Rumbley's team-leading third goal of the season, but Gardner-Webb was able to pull it out with a goal with just 1:39 remaining in regulation. Alyssa Dellacqua made seven saves and has 239 in her career, four shy of passing Pam Ramler for fourth in school history. Fellow senior goalkeeper Jazmin Gonzalez ranks second in the Big South in saves per game (7.57), save percentage (.855) and goals against average (1.21).
High Point's Skyler Prillaman earned her second Big South Freshman of the Week award after scoring the game-winning goal in both contests last week. She is tied for fifth in the conference with six goals and tied for third with 15 points. Alex Denny and Caitlin Shepherd have both scored four goals on the year.
The Panthers hold a 19-6 lead in the all-time series and have won 10 in a row. The teams battled to a scoreless draw through regulation last year before High Point scored in the first overtime period for a 1-0 home victory.
Following Wednesday's contest, CSU heads to Orangeburg on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game against South Carolina State in a makeup of a game postponed earlier this season by Hurricane Florence.
