Bucs' season comes to an end in Big South Championship First Round

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Charleston Southern Women's Soccer saw their season come to an end on the road on Sunday afternoon in the Big South Championships First Round as the No. 8 Buccaneers fell to No. 1 High Point, 1-0.

CSU advanced to the postseason with Big South wins over UNC Asheville and Campbell, along with a tie at Winthrop, but were unable to fight their way back from a goal put up by High Point in the final ten minutes of the match.

After a scoreless first half, the Panthers found the back of the net in the 81st minute.  Michele Micciche and Bailey Beattie set junior midfielder Paige Rombach up with the shot from 10 yards out.  CSU's Liz Amanda Brown made a great effort to cover the ball, but Rombach used her momentum, practically leaping over Brown to send the ball rolling just within the post and into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Anna Sells had two shots for the Buccaneers, including one on goal, while Kelsey Fitzhugh, Erica Gazzani, Jordan Newman and Addie Bokelman recorded one shot apiece.  Aside from Sells, Fitzhugh had the only other shot on goal for CSU.  Brown closed out her junior year with five saves for the match.

Charleston Southern finishes their 2016 season with a 6-11-1 overall record.
