Bucs fall to Presbyterian, 3-2

CLINTON, S.C. – After a strong start, Charleston Southern was unable to maintain momentum and fell to Presbyterian College on the road, 3-2.

The Buccaneers (6-6, 2-2) opened the game as an offensive force, with goals from Anna Sells and Kelly Hinkle within the first 10 minutes.

But the Bucs lost their steam as the Blue Hose (3-10, 1-4) got on the board in the 22nd minute with a goal to the right side of the net from Presbyterian's Kristen Peagler.  Just three minutes later, Peagler once again found the back of the net with a header goal to tie up the game, 2-2.

As CSU looked for the go-ahead goal, PC showed a tough defensive effort with freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Leaman recording five saves in the first half.  With three minutes left before the end of the period, the Blue Hose captured the lead with a header goal from Ashlynn Powell.

Although the Bucs were able to outshoot the Blue Hose 18-15, with 10 shots on goal versus PC's 7, they were unable to fight back in the physical match consisting of 19 fouls, 12 of which were called against CSU.

In the 6th minute, Sells scored the first goal of the game when Hinkle lobbed a pass high to set Sells up for a header goal that sailed into the right side of the net.  The goal marked Sells seventh this season to put her at the top of the Big South leaderboard for most goals scored.

Hinkle went on to contribute to CSU's only other goal, doubling the Bucs score in the 10th minute with an unassisted shot from 15 yards out for her third goal of the season.

Defensively, Alyssa Dellacqua was in the net for the first half and recorded three saves.  Liz Amanda Brown played the second half and recorded one save for the Bucs.

Charleston Southern will return home this weekend as the Buccaneers welcome High Point University to the CSU Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.  Kickoff between the Bucs and the Panthers is set for 1 p.m.
