Bucs fall to Radford in first conference game on the road, 2-0

CHARLESTON, S.C – Charleston Southern was unable to rally back from a strong first half put up by Radford as the Buccaneers fell to the Highlanders on the road, 2-0.

The Buccaneers (6-5, 2-1) struggled to maintain possession throughout the match, with Radford (5-4, 3-0) outshooting CSU, 19-6.

The Highlanders gained momentum early in the match after offensive leader Jasmine Casarez put Radford on the board in the 9th minute with a low shot from the top of the box that rolled passed Liz Amanda Brown and into the right side of the net.  Casarez went on to double Radford's score in the 30th minute with a header goal for her seventh this year.  The sophomore midfielder's multi-goal effort put her at the top of the Big South leaderboard for most goals on the season.

Right behind Casarez is CSU's Anna Sells, with six goals so far this season.  Sells made several attempts to put the Bucs on the board, with one shot blocked in the 4th minute and another goal attempt stopped in the 33rd minute by Radford goalkeeper Jessica Wollmann.  Sells was given another opportunity to score in the 78th minute after a foul called on Radford, but the shot sailed high, just over the net.

Midfielder Erica Gazzani also put up an offensive effort, taking two shots for the match.  Radford goalkeeper Courtenay Kaplan saved Gazzani's first attempt, while her second attempt, a header goal, drifted wide of the net.

CSU will remain on the road next week as they travel to Winthrop University's Eagle Field on Wednesday afternoon at 6 p.m. on the Big South Network.
