HANAHAN, S.C. – Charleston Southern freshman Ellen Hume carded a two-over par 74 to pace the Bucs in Sunday's opening round of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club. CSU stands 19th as a team, with 12 teams still needing to complete the first round after thunderstorms suspended play.
Florida holds the clubhouse lead at 10-under par. The 14th-ranked Gators are one of eight teams in the loaded field ranked in Golfstat's top-40. No. 31 Vanderbilt is two strokes back at -8, while No. 3 Arkansas trails by four. Florida's Sierra Brooks fired a seven-under 65 to take the individual lead into Monday.
Evening thunderstorms and lighting delayed play, meaning the first round will conclude beginning tomorrow at 8 a.m. Second round play is slated to get underway at 9:30.
Hume, who was CSU's top qualifier during the preseason, is in a tie for 53rd after a steady first round. She parred eight of her first nine holes and birdied the par-four 10th before dropping two strokes on the way in.
Senior Andriel Aimua (T-87th) posted the Bucs' second best score with a five-over 77. Aimua settled down on the back nine, coming in at even par thanks in part to birdies at the par-five 15th and 18th holes.
Daniela Intriago (T-97th) also improved on the back nine, coming in at +2 to finish at +7 overall. Intriago closed strong as well, recording birdies on both closing par-five's.
