CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern and head women's golf coach Matt Cram-Smith announced the Bucs' 2018-19 schedule on Friday. CSU will compete in four fall events and four spring events leading into April's Big South Conference Championship.
A young CSU team featuring five freshmen and seven underclassmen will begin the fall slate in just three weeks at the Cougar Classic, hosted by College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall Club. In total, the Bucs will play in five local tournaments and seven in the state of South Carolina.
"It's another season full of big events for us so there will be good opportunities for our girls to improve all around," Cram-Smith said. "It's good to get back to Yeamans Hall to kick off our season again, and the girls will love that course."
"A new tournament for us is a match play event at The Patriot (Oct. 15-16), where'll we play our conference championship in the spring," Cram-Smith continued. "That'll be great for the team, especially all our new girls, to play that course and experience the match play format."
Presbyterian will play host to that event, the Blue Hose Match Play, and welcome a field including many Big South programs. CSU will wrap up the fall slate at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, hosted by CofC at Kiawah Island's Turtle Point Golf Club.
One of the highlights of the Bucs' spring slate is the Edisto Island Invitational March 31-April 1. CSU will co-host the event with CofC at The Plantation Course at Edisto.
"That will be a new course for us and a good opportunity to host an event with a lot of good teams," Cram-Smith said. "We've heard great things about The Plantation Course and are excited about the chance to play it."
The Big South Championship is set for April 12-14 and will once again be contested at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.
