Bucs earn No. 2 seed in 2017 Big South Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern has earned the No. 2 seed in next week's Big South Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting. The event will be hosted by Radford at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C. The Bucs receive the No. 2 seed based on their GolfStat national ranking of 116, the second highest of the nine league programs.

Campbell, the defending Big South champion, claimed the No. 1 seed thanks to its No. 50 ranking. Gardner-Webb is the No. 3 seed with its ranking of 147, while Winthrop earns the No. 4 seed with its national ranking of 154.  High Point, ranked No. 169, will be the No. 5 seed in the championship, with Presbyterian College (213) receiving the No. 6 seed.  Longwood receives the No. 7 seed (No. 217), ahead of first-year program UNC Asheville (No. 8 - 223).  Host Radford rounds out the field at No. 9 (234).

CSU placed third at last year's Big South Championship. Hayley McNeill was the Bucs' top finisher, placing in a tie for sixth. Shelby Thompson and Emelie Flink finished tied for 11th.

This marks the first time since 2014 that The Patriot will play host to the Big South Championship. The course will utilize a par 72, 6,045-yard layout.

The championship begins this weekend with a practice round on Sunday, April 16.  The three-day, 54-hole event will be played April 17-19 and is free and open to the public.  In addition, fans can follow the action online via GolfStat's "Live Scoring" feature.  The 2017 champion will receive the Big South's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.  CSU is slated to tee off its first round Monday between 9:40 and 10:20 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Big South Conference will announce its 2017 All-Conference Team, All-Freshman Team, All-Academic Team, All-Championship Team and the annual award winners on Wednesday, April 19 as part of the post-championship awards ceremony.
