DeLAND, Fla. – Charleston Southern senior Bella Johnson sits in seventh place and junior Hayley McNeill is tied for eighth through two rounds of the Babs Steffens Invitational at Victoria Hills Golf Club. CSU bumped up two spots to fifth in the 11-team field, hosted by Stetson University.'
Johnson carded a second round one-over par 73 and is +4 overall, just five shots off the pace set by St. Leo's Marie Coors. McNeill, who has anchored the Bucs' lineup throughout the spring, is at +5 following a second round 75. Milleina Ohara bounced back from a first round 82 with an even par 72 on day two and is tied for 27th.
St. Leo, ranked seventh at the Division II level, built on its lead with a four-over par second round total. Boston University is nine shots behind, while Stetson and Dartmouth are 11 back. Coors, courtesy of Sunday's 69, is one stroke in front of teammate Amanda Jakobsson for the individual lead.
Johnson was two-under through 11 holes before bogeying three straight holes. She recovered with three consecutive pars to end her day in strong fashion. Johnson rolled in birdies at No. 18, 1 and 2 to highlight her round.
McNeill was very steady for the entire day before double bogeying the ninth, her closing hole. She notched nine pars on the back nine and also posted a birdie at the par-five fifth.
Ohara delivered the best round of the day for coach Matt Cram-Smith's squad, surging to a three-under back nine courtesy of birdies at No. 12, 16 and 18.
Final round play is slated to start Monday at 8:30 a.m.
