CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern senior Shelby Thompson has been named Big South Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Friday. Thompson recorded the best round in CSU history, a six-under par 66, to finish ninth at the Pinehurst Challenge Invitational.
Thompson was also named Big South Golfer of the Week following her runner-up finish at the CSU Invitational. She has posted two top-five and three top-ten finishes in four events this fall.
Thompson had matched the program record of 68, held by Olivia Jordan-Higgins and Patricia Martinson, just two weeks ago at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. She went past that number and passed 52 players in the field at Pinehurst No. 1 on the final day by racking up eight birdies. Thompson tallied a three-under score on both nines.
CSU will wrap up its fall season Oct. 23-26 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island.
