Bucs run away from Montreat, 86-34

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Three Buccaneers scored double-digits as Charleston Southern dominated every facet of the game in topping visiting Montreat on Tuesday night inside the Buc Dome, 86-34.

Tatum Jarvis led CSU with 18 points in the contest as the sophomore forward went 7-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the three-point line to lead the Bucs in shooting 44.9 percent from the floor in the victory. Monique Maximilien added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Alyssa Mann scored a season-high 10 points and had three assists for the Bucs.

CSU improved to 3-5 overall with the win, while Montreat fell to 1-11 overall with the loss.

Montreat's Gabrielle King connected on a three-pointer to open the scoring in the game, but back-to-back baskets by Brianna Lakes and Alise Karlsone gave CSU the lead for good at the 16:42 mark in the first half. Karlsone added a three-pointer on the next CSU possession as the Bucs rattled off a 32-5 run in building a 32-10 lead with 7:07 remaining in the first half.

The Bucs continued to press their run in outscoring the Cavaliers 21-1 over the final seven minutes of the half in building the 53-11 halftime lead on Eden Crowell's three-pointer at the buzzer. Jarvis led the Bucs in the first half with 12 points, hitting all four of her three-point attempts in the period, while Maximilien added 11 points and seven rebounds during the stretch.

CSU scored the first four points of the second half before Hannah Henriquez connected on a layup at the 17:59 mark in the second half to end the Montreat scoreless streak. The Bucs remained in control of the game as Mann drove in for the layup to give CSU the 74-23 lead as CSU cruised to the 86-34 win inside the Buc Dome.

The Bucs held the 41-30 rebounding advantage in the game with Christal Barnett contributing six rebounds to the totals. Alecia Hardy led the way with five of CSU's 24 assists in the game and four of the Bucs 21 steals as CSU held the 42-8 advantage in points off of turnovers in the game.

King led the Cavaliers with 11 points in the game, while Charnay Ryland had 12 rebounds.

CSU returns to the road this weekend as the Bucs take part in the 2014 Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington. The Bucs take on Jacksonville State on Friday afternoon in Trask Coliseum with tipoff set for 2 p.m. CSU will take on tournament host UNC Wilmington to close out the weekend on Saturday with tipoff also set for 2 p.m.
