CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charleston Southern freshman right-hander Alyssa Heinrich was named this week's Big South Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Heinrich receives conference honors for the second time this season. The Mount Pleasant, S.C. native previously earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors on February 12 following the Bucs' Wingate by Wyndham Invitational tournament.
Heinrich posted a 1-0 record and her first collegiate save during the week that included appearances against College of Charleston and Presbyterian (twice). She allowed just one hit over the 10.0 innings pitched and surrendered one walk while striking out five.
She opened the week with a scoreless appearance on the road at CofC going the final inning and surrendering a walk in the loss against the Cougars.
She pitched in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader against Presbyterian. Heinrich went the final two innings against the Blue Hose retiring all six batters she faced in her first save of the season. She followed up with the start in the series finale and responded with her best performance of the season. The freshman surrendered just a bunt single in the top of the fifth inning on her way to the complete game one-hitter.
