Buccaneers put seven among the top finishers at the VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. - Charleston Southern put seven on the podium with Vincent Johnson taking top honors in the men's 60m hurdles as the Buccaneers closed out the one-day VMI Team Challenge hosted at the Corps Physical Training Facility.


Top Three

Senior Joshua Paramore was the Buccaneers' leader in the men's 60m dash. Paramore finished 11th overall in the field with a time of 7.12.

Vincent Johnson continued his strong spring on his way to claiming the title in the 60m hurdles. The junior crossed the line in 8.06 to hold off the competition by four-hundredths of a second to claim the title.

Justin Green narrowly missed out on a top-three finish to lead four Buccaneers in the men's 400m race. Green placed fourth overall in 50.13, while Josiah Scarlett was ninth in 50.70. Phillip Finsterwalder placed 13th in the race in 51.73, while Terik Johnson was 17th in 53.30.

Keith Terry and David Bergamasco were in the top-10 in the men's 800m race. Terry placed sixth overall in 2:00.12, while Bergamasco was 10th in 2:03.33.

Green and Vincent Johnson led five Bucs in the men's 200m race with the CSU junior duo both placing in the top-10. Green placed seventh in 22.38, while Johnson was ninth in 22.55. Paramore was 15th in the field in 22.87, while Finsterwalder placed 24th in 23.14. Joey Johnson wrapped up the group finishing 33rd in 28.31.

Timothy Davis led two Bucs in the men's long jump event. Davis placed sixth overall and topped the field in the finals flight one after reaching 6.69m. Richard Sharp was 15th overall after clearing 5.91m.

Davis showed out in the men's triple jump event and was one of two athletes to clear 14-meters in the event. The junior cleared 14.59m in his final attempt to place second in the field. Sharp was ninth overall with 12.52m.

Frankie Thomas placed second overall in the men's high jump event in his indoor season debut. The junior was one of two athletes to clear 1.99m on his way to finish behind Appalachian State's Jordan Dale.

JP Caglione continued his trend of finishing among the top three in the men's weight throw event as the junior finished third overall in the field in 17.60m. Ryan Spiecha finished sixth with 15.35m, while Clarence Moss placed 12th overall after reaching 13.63m.

Spiecha and Caglione finished second and third in the men's shot put event on Saturday afternoon. Spiecha was second overall with a throw of 15.96m, while Caglione placed third in 14.94m. Jerome Rice placed 11th in the field in 12.59m, while Moss was 12th in 12.58m.

The Bucs A team finished third overall in the men's 4000m distance medley relay. The quartet of Keith Terry, Terik Johnson, Josiah Scarlett, and David Bergamasco crossed the line in 10:48.59 to finish behind host VMI in the event.

Joshua Martin, Ethan Blevins, and Benjamin Eddy took on the field in the men's 3000m race. Martin was 14th overall in 9:18.41, while Blevins finished 17th in 9:24.90. Eddy rounded out the group in 19th in 9:42.54.

Charleston Southern will split the team up next weekend as the Bucs will travel to the Carolina Challenge (Feb. 1-2) and the Liberty Elite Invitational (Feb. 2).
