CLEMSON, S.C. - The Buccaneers competed at the Clemson Orange and Purple Invite as Charleston Southern opened up the 2018 indoor season at the Clemson Indoor Track Complex.
Diamond Rush led the Bucs in her first collegiate action as the freshman paced CSU in the women's 60m dash preliminaries. Rush finished 15th in the field with a time of 7.77, topping fellow teammate Jasmine Pilgrim (7.95, 25th).
Shantel Ardley and Kaitlyn Pierce represented CSU in the women's 200m dash event. Ardley placed 22nd in the field with a time of 26.41, while Pierce (27.45) was 26th overall.
Alexis Adams finished 18th in the women's 400m dash event with a time of 1:02.02.
Traci Drayton led the Bucs in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:41.84. It was good for ninth place in the event.
Caroline Edmondson, Ardley, and Victoria Gibson all took on the field in the women's 60m hurdles. Edmondson led the way in the preliminaries with a time of 9.16 to place 19th in the event. Ardley was 23rd with a time of 9.45, while Gibson was one spot behind with a time of 9.52.
Edmondson added a 15th place result in the women's high jump with a height of 1.55m, while Gibson placed 20th in the long jump with a distance of 4.99m.
Alexus Foreman, Milan Williams, and Madison McCoy all took on the field in the women's shot put. Foreman placed eighth with a throw of 11.83m, while Williams (11.07m) was 11th and McCoy (10.90m) was 12th on the day.
Williams put the Bucs on the podium for the day in the women's weight throw with a distance of 16.75m to place third in the event. McCoy added a top 10 finish with a throw of 13.17m, while Foreman (12.89m) placed 12th overall.
Justin Green and Pressley represented CSU in the men's 200m dash on the afternoon. Green finished 12th overall with a time of 22.79, while Pressley was 16th on the day with a time of 23.80.
Josiah Scarlett led four Bucs in the men's 400m dash field with a time of 51.05. Scarlett finished 14th in the field, while Trayvon Harris (52.18), Terik Johnson (53.15) and Kyle Morrell (53.16) all finished in the top 20 in the event.
Freshman Joshua Bowers led the Bucs in the one-mile run with a time of 4:37.94 to place 12th in the event.
Jeryk Wilson finished second among collegiate runners and fourth overall in the field in the men's 3000m run. Wilson crossed the line in 8:32.70 to lead the Bucs, while Trevor Dominy (8:55.01) and Hayden Alexander (9:27.86) both took on the field in the event.
Freshmen Matt Inman and Adam Huff represented CSU in their first collegiate action of the season in the men's 5000m run. Inman placed fourth overall with a time of 15:57.96, while Huff crossed the line seventh with a time of 16:32.73.
Vincent Johnson placed 18th in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 13.70.
The Charleston Southern 'A' team of Green, Johnson, Paramore, and Harris finished seventh overall in the 4x400m relay. The Bucs crossed the line in 3:27.33.
Frankie Thomas tied for fourth overall in the men's high jump with a height of 2.00m.
Davis was 10th overall in the men's triple jump on the day with a distance of 14.35m.
Ryan Spiecha led four Bucs in the men's shot put event, placing fifth overall in the field with a distance of 15.41m. JP Caglione was sixth overall with a distance of 15.27m, while Seth Wolfe was 11th with a distance of 12.24m. Clarence Moss fouled out in the event.
Caglione led the Bucs in the men's weight throw event with an eighth place result. The sophomore exceeded his seeding with a throw of 16.48m to pace CSU. Spiecha was 10th overall with a throw of 14.39m, while Moss placed 12th with a throw of 11.78m.
CSU continues the indoor season next weekend at the Commodore Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University on January 12-13 at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
