Spiecha podiums in the shot put to lead Bucs on day two of Big South Outdoor Championship

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Ryan Spiecha earned the Charleston Southern throwers' second podium finish of the week to lead the Buccaneers on the second day of the 2017 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Bagwell-Settle Track. The Bucs are sixth overall in the team standings heading into the final day of the event.

Spiecha finished second overall in the shot put event utilizing a strong throw in his fifth attempt to lead the Bucs. The freshman thrower reached 15.79m to finish just behind Gardner-Webb's Marcus Abraham (16.87m) on the day. Senior Jacob Moore finished sixth overall in the event with a throw of 14.30m, while Clarence Moss finished 10th overall with a throw of 13.26m.

Liberty leads the way in the team event heading into the final day with 56 points. Winthrop is second overall with 46 points, while Gardner-Webb enters the third day on the podium with 39 points. High Point (29) and Campbell (27) rounds out the top five overall.

Sophomore Dadrekas Hill advanced to Friday's championship round in the 110m hurdles. Hill crossed the line in 16.04 to finish third in the second heat and sixth overall on the day to earn one of the eight qualifying spots in the finals.

Freshman Justin Green will represent the Bucs in the finals of the 400m race. Green placed fifth overall in the first heat and eighth overall in the field with a time of 50.78 to lead the Bucs.

Sophomore Joshua Paramore will represent the Bucs in the 100m dash finals on Friday afternoon. Paramore finished fifth in the first heat and sixth overall in the field with a time of 11.06 to advance to the championships. Freshmen Ellijah Henry (11.23, 13th) and Niegel Simmons (11.51, 14th) both competed in the preliminaries on Thursday.

Sophomore Keith Terry advanced to the finals following the 800m preliminaries. Terry placed eighth overall in the field with a time of 1:56.65 to secure the final spot in Friday's championship. Fellow sophomore Brandon Damon placed 11th in the field with a time of 1:57.60 to close out the competition for the Bucs on the day.

Charleston Southern's throwers are back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. to start the final day of competition. The men's 4x100m relay team will open the track events at 12:40 p.m., while Frankie Thomas and the jumpers open the high jump event at 1 p.m.
