CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern track and field team is back at it again this weekend at the UNF Invite held in Jacksonville, Fla. on the campus of the University of North Florida. The one-day event at Hodges Stadium is set to begin on the field with the hammer throw, javelin, and the long jump. The running events are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles.
The Buccaneers will be one of 36 different college/club teams in attendance at the event. Over 1,000 athletes will be competing over the day at Hodges Stadium. CSU will be the lone Big South team in attendance at the meet.
CSU continues their final tune-up before the Big South Conference Outdoor Championships that will be held on May 10-12 at the Bagwell-Settle Track on the campus of Charleston Southern University. The Bucs will be at home next weekend for the Lowcountry Invitational on April 15.
The Bucs competed at the Florida Relays and the VertKlasse Meeting this past weekend.
Frankie Thomas rounded out the CSU group that went to the Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday. The freshman high jumper cleared a season-high 2.00m in the event to finish 11th overall in the field.
At the VertKlasseMeeting, Vincent Johnson finished on the podium in the men's 110m hurdles. The freshman finished third in the field with a time of 14.53 for the top overall finish for the Bucs on the day.
Madison McCoy paced CSU in the women's discus throw finishing sixth in the field and third among Big South athletes with a throw of 43.64m.
Milan Williams was in the top 10 in the women's hammer throw group A with a distance of 50.60m. Her throw placed her eighth in the field on the final day of the meet.
CSU has two meets remaining prior to the Big South Outdoor Championships with next weekend's Lowcountry Invitational, and the April 22nd University of South Carolina Invitational.
