MTRACK PREVIEW: Buccaneers open indoor season at Clemson Invitational this weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern men's track and field program open up the indoor season this weekend at the Clemson Invitational held at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex on January 14.

The one-day event will be held on a newly surfaced facility that boasts one of the fastest tracks in the country. Five facility records fell this past weekend at the Orange & Purple Classic on Saturday afternoon and altogether, there were nine competitors who finished with times better than the previous facility records. The women's 200m, 300m, and 500m were all topped as well as the men's 200m and 300m.

The Bucs will compete in three more events as they ready themselves for the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for February 25-26 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jim Stintzi leads a young roster in his first season with the Buccaneers featuring 10 freshmen in the lineup for the 2017 indoor and outdoor season.

"We are excited about the chance to make some progress after the semester break," Stintzi commented. "We're looking forward to taking a step toward our ultimate goal of getting a well-rounded team ready for the Big South indoor and outdoor championships"

The men's team was picked sixth overall in the preseason Big South Indoor Track & Field poll announced back on December 1.

The Buccaneers will send 21 athletes to take on the field at the Clemson Invitational. Among the leading returners on the men's side include sophomore sprinter Joshua Paramore and senior thrower Jacob Moore.

Paramore returns for his second season with the Buccaneers after finishing runner-up in the 2016 Big South Championships in the 200m and fourth-place in the 60m.

Senior thrower Jacob Moore returns to headline a strong throwing class after finishing sixth overall in the shot put at the 2016 Big South Championships and earning a spot on the Big South All-Academic team.

Freshmen cross country standouts, Jeryk Wilson and Trevor Dominy, will also join the roster in the 2017 season.

Charleston Southern will be joined by Jacksonville, Gardner-Webb, Coastal Carolina, Spartanburg Methodist, Johnson C. Smith, Anderson (S.C.), Florida State, Clemson, North Florida, South Carolina, and Southern Wesleyan.

Results from the event will be available at CSUSports.com following the competition.
