CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern was selected fourth overall in the Big South Preseason Women's Indoor Track & Field poll and the men were picked sixth overall in the men's Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
"We're excited about the progress we feel we've made in the fall," said CSU Director of Track Jim Stintzi. "We're looking forward to continuing our progress that we've made to help us reach our potential. We feel like we've made a lot of strides and hopefully maintain it over the break as we continue to get ready for the indoor season."
The Buccaneers women received 32 points to sit fourth overall in the women's preseason poll. CSU is coming off an indoor season that saw the Bucs earn fifth place overall at the 2016 Big South Championships.
Junior sprinter Jasmine Pilgrim returns to defend her 200-meter crown and looks for another shot at the 60-meter title after finishing second among the field last season. Seniors Kolisha Colemanand Aluntrea Davis also return to lead a deep sprinting core for the Bucs heading into the indoor season.
The Buccaneers women's track and field team also feature one of the youngest teams in the conference with 17 freshmen listed on the roster.
The Buccaneers' men received 16 points to sit sixth overall in the men's preseason poll. CSU finished sixth overall last year in the 2016 Big South Indoor Track & Field championships held in Blacksburg, Va.
Sophomore sprinter Joshua Paramore earned runner-up honors in the 200-meter event at the championships last season and fourth in the 60-meter event to lead the Buccaneers' sprinters. Thrower Jacob Moore also returns after finishing sixth in the shot put after surpassing his seed distance on the second day of the event.
CSU begins the 2017 Indoor Track and Field season on January 14 at the Clemson Invitational held at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
