CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern seniors Braxton Drummond and E.J. Reddick will try to jump their way into the NCAA Championships this weekend at the Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida. The event is being hosted by the University of North Florida.
Drummond, seeded second in the long jump, is slated to compete at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Reddick, seeded 50th in the triple jump, will take part in his first NCAA Championship event on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Both have enjoyed stellar final collegiate campaigns to give themselves a chance at advancing to nationals in Eugene, Oregon from June 8-10. The top 12 competitors in each event, out of a group of 48 athletes, will move on to college track's pinnacle event.
Drummond is bidding for All-American status for the third time in his illustrious career, having achieved first-team accolades in indoor and outdoor track in 2014. Drummond's jump of 8.10 meters at April's Hurricane Alumni Invitational qualified him for the U.S. Olympic Trials, and was the top mark in the nation until last week. Florida State's Stefan Brits, who will go against Drummond in flight four on Thursday, jumped 8.22 meters at the ACC Championships to move into the top spot.
Reddick stayed healthy and excelled throughout the outdoor campaign. The Mauldin, S.C. product collected a Big South title in the triple jump two weeks ago at Liberty. He is slated to jump as part of flight two on Saturday afternoon.
