MGOLF Preview: Bucs continue spring schedule with Wofford Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern is back on the road for the Wofford Invitational this week as the Buccaneers travel to the Country Club of Spartanburg on April 1-2 for the 54-hole tournament.

It is a pro-Big South field as the Bucs join six other conference teams in the 16-team field as CSU continues its preparations for the upcoming Big South Men's Golf Championships hosted on April 17-20 at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.

Charleston Southern looks to keep up its strong season this year heading into the Wofford Invitational. The Buccaneers have recorded seven top-10 finishes, including their first win of the year back at the Wexford Intercollegiate, as they continue to progress toward the Big South Championships and the postseason.

Freshman Alan Smith is coming off a standout performance at the Furman Intercollegiate on his way to earning Big South Men's Golf Freshman of the Week honors. He carded a 7-over 220 to help the Bucs lead all Big South teams at the tournament.

Smith's performance comes as the Big South released their latest update to the conference's scoring averages.  Brandon Smith is sixth overall in the Big South at 72.52, while Connor Moore (15th, 73.61) and Elliot Gothe (16th, 73.87) provide a potent quartet for Head Coach Jason Payne.
