Griffin never trailed in Wednesday's match, repeatedly answering Jeansonne's rallies. On all three occasions that Jeansonne squared the match, Griffin followed with a birdie on the next hole to retake the lead. The last of those came at the par-three 14th hole, giving Griffin a one-up advantage. He followed with a par at No. 15 and another birdie at No. 16 to seal the win.

In total, Griffin birdied six holes and finished at -2 through 16 holes. He will now face No. 57 seed Joey Vrzich on Thursday morning in a Round of 32 match. The match is scheduled to start at 7:35 a.m. PDT. The winner will move into Thursday afternoon's Round of 16 and vie for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Griffin earned a berth in the match play field by placing in a tie for 19th over 36 holes of stroke play. He was fourth in the 312-player field after a first round four-under par 66 on Monday.
