Bucs earn No. 4 seed in 2017 Big South Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern has earned the No. 4 seed in this weekend's Big South Men's Golf Championship. High Point will serve as host at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C. The Bucs received the No. 4 seed based on their Golfstat national ranking of 152.

Liberty, the defending Big South champion, claimed the No. 1 seed thanks to its No. 48 ranking. Campbell is the No. 2 seed with its ranking of 71, while Gardner-Webb earns the No. 3 seed with its national ranking of 119. Winthrop (156), Radford (170) and Longwood (187) are seeded fifth through seventh. Host High Point (215) is the No. 8 seed, and Presbyterian (220) rounds out the field.

CSU will be bidding for its fourth consecutive top-three Big South Championship finish. The Bucs won the event in 2015 and challenged for a repeat last year before taking third. Austin James is the event's defending champion. James' 11-under par tally is the second-best mark in championship history.

The Patriot Golf Club (par 72, 7,120 yards) is hosting the Big South Men's Golf Championship for the 12th time in 13 years, as the course has hosted the event every year since 2008 in addition to 2005 and 2006.  The 2017 Big South Men's Golf Championship begins tomorrow with a practice round, followed by the three-day, 54-hole event from April 21-23.  The Championship is free and open to the public, and fans can follow the action online via GolfStat's "Live Scoring" feature.  The 2017 champion will receive the Big South's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.

Meanwhile, the Big South Conference will announce its 2017 All-Conference Team, All-Freshman Team, All-Academic Team, All-Championship Team and the annual award winners on Sunday, April 23 following the event at the post-Championship awards ceremony.
