GREENVILLE, S.C. – Senior David Denlinger shot a 2-under 70 to move into a tie for eighth and to carry the Buccaneers to a team 296 (+8) in Saturday's second round at the Furman Intercollegiate, played at the Furman University Course.
The senior eagled the second hole and added three more birdies on his card to finish at 2-under. He birdied No. 16 and No. 18 coming in to finish strong and is tied for eighth heading into tomorrow's final round. Denlinger is 3-under for the event and is six strokes behind leader Trevor Cone of Virginia Tech.
The Bucs (+9) head into Sunday tied for sixth with Elon. CSU is 17 strokes back of No. 10 Virginia Tech and Georgia State, who are tied for the lead at 8-under. No. 36 Kennesaw State is third at 6-under. USC Upstate (+2) and Akron (+4) round out the top five.
Playing as an individual, freshman Austin James is tied for 18th after 36 holes. James had four birdies and was 1-under on the front in his round.
CSU, as a team, was 7-under on the par-5 second hole on the day.
Freshman Daniel Grogory and senior Ross Thomson shot matching 75s on Saturday. Gregory had four birdies on the front nine to go out in 34 (-2). Thomson also eagled No. 2 to start fast, but only added a birdie on No. 15 to finish at 3-over for the round.
Junior Will Pieper shot a 76 (+4) and was 1-under after birdies on No. 2 and No. 6, but shot a 39 on the tougher back nine.
Pieper and Thomson are both tied for 40th.
Junior Jarrett Swan added a 78 on the day and had to birdies in his round of 6-over.
Tee times begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
