Buccaneers finish 9th at Badger Invitational

VERONA, Wisc. – The Charleston Southern Buccaneers fired a team-307 to finish in a tie for ninth with Xavier in the final round of the 2013 Badger Invitational on Tuesday at the University Ridge Golf Course. 

CSU finished five strokes back of Missouri-Kansas City and six strokes behind Rutgers. 

South Carolina rolled to a 24-stroke win in the event. USC's Caleb Sturgeon won by six strokes with a total of 206 (-10). 

Sophomore Nico Baena was the Bucs' top finisher in tying for 14th. Senior Ross Thomson climbed into the Top 20 with a 71 in the final round, his second round under par in the event. He also fired a 71 in the opening round. 

Freshman Austin James finished 29th with his third consecutive 75 (+3), while David Denlinger tied for 52nd following a frustrating 83 on Tuesday. C.J. Liner also shot an 83 in his final round. 

The Buccaneers return to action Oct. 27-29 at The Invitational. The event is played at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, regularly ranked as one of the Top 20 courses in the world and host of the 2012 PGA Championship.
