CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern alum Kelvin Martin will suit up for Vanoli Cremona in Italy's top professional league, Serie A, in 2017-18. Martin reached an agreement with the club last week and will soon begin year six of a successful pro career.
Martin has played in the Netherlands, Germany and Italy since graduating from CSU in 2012. He was an all-star in Germany's ProA league in 2014 and has averaged around 15 points and six rebounds as a professional. The signing is CSU's second in as many days, as Martin's former teammate Saah Nimley inked a deal with the Newcastle Eagles of the British Basketball League on Thursday.
Martin starred at CSU from 2008-12 and helped lay the foundation for the Bucs' Big South regular season championship teams in 2012-13 and 2014-15. The Adel, Ga., native ranks second in CSU history in rebounds, third in steals, seventh in field goal percentage and eighth in scoring. He earned Big South Defensive Player of the Year honors in both 2010-11 and 2011-12, and was named 1st Team All-Big South in the latter year.
Martin ranks fourth in Big South history with 968 rebounds, and is one of only four players in league annals with 1,000 points, 900 rebounds, 200 steals and 100 blocked shots.
